Molly-Mae Hague and her partner Tommy Fury recently revealed the name of their baby son, Midas. But while people assumed he was named after King Midas, that’s actually not the case.
Molly-Mae is setting the record straight on the meaning behind her baby son’s name. The baby, who was born on June 7, is called Midas Thomas Fury, and his first name was revealed during his dad’s boxing match against Eddie Hall.
And it turns out, they had it picked out years ago!

In Greek mythology, Midas was the king of Phrygia, and everything he touched turned to gold. The name means noble or illustrious. However, that was not exactly the inspiration behind the name.
In a new YouTube video, the mum-of-two shared the story behind how they picked the name. Referring to the so-called ‘Midas Touch’, she said that while she loved the phrase, ‘everything he touches turns to gold’, and that Tommy even had the words sewn into his boxing shorts, the link to her son’s name was only partial.
She explained, ‘[Her son] is not necessarily named after the Greek King because I saw a few comments being like, “um, King Midas was a fool in Greek mythology. Like this is just so silly if she’s called her son this”.
‘But the same way Bambi is not necessarily named after the Disney character Bambi, is the same way Midas is not named after the Greek King.’

She then told the ‘random story’ of how she heard the name Midas for the first time when she watched Real Steel, a 2011 film starring Hugh Jackman.
Saying that it’s not usually the type of thing she likes, it’s ‘actually such a great film’.
She said, ‘It’s got Hugh Jackman in it, and it’s a film about robots boxing.
‘And one of the robots in the film that was boxing was called Midas. I heard the name, and I thought – this was years ago – I was like, “Wow, that’s a really cool, strong name.”
She mentioned the name to Tommy, who ‘absolutely fell in love with’ it.
She continued, ‘I don’t even know what timeline we’re looking at here. This could have been like literally years ago, but that was always our boy name, really, that we stuck with.’

Molly-Mae and Tommy welcomed their first child, a girl they named Bambi, in January 2023. The couple met on Love Island in 2019.
