Prince Harry has reportedly agreed to stay at Buckingham Palace with his family when they return to the UK next month.
Harry, Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will travel together to the UK for the first time in four years to attend an Invictus Games event in Birmingham.
King Charles had offered the Sussexes accommodation at one of the royal residences, and the Duke of Sussex is now said to have accepted, albeit reluctantly.
According to an insider, Harry, 41, has grown “increasingly frustrated” an ongoing review into his request for taxpayer-funded security has taken six months, despite the UK government initially stating it would be completed in “a matter of weeks”.
The Duke of Sussex’s access to police protection was taken away when he and Meghan walked away from royal duties in 2020 and relocated to the United States.
“He has grown increasingly frustrated with the whole process and has had to alter his standpoint,” an insider told the Daily Mirror.
“From initially being told a decision would be made within a matter of weeks, it is now more than six months on.
“He (Harry) was determined to travel back to the UK with his family around the Invictus event, so he has finally made the decision to accept the offer of staying at a royal residence, which he believes will be sufficient for this trip.”
During previous solo visits, Harry declined offers to stay at Buckingham Palace over fears that such a high-profile, visible building could pose a threat to his safety and privacy.
In May 2025, Harry said it was not safe to bring Meghan and their children to the UK after losing a court battle to have his police protection reinstated when visiting his birth country.
In December, the UK government agreed to review the decision, but Harry is still awaiting the outcome.
As reported by the BBC, while the Sussexes’ security arrangements remain unclear, no extra security provision has been offered by Buckingham Palace.
The corporation states that any additional protection would be a matter for the government.
The upcoming visit marks the first time the Sussexes have joined Harry in the UK since 2022.
Meghan, 44, was last on British soil in September 2022 for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
Meanwhile, King Charles, 77, has not seen his grandchildren, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, since they attended the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in July the same year.
Royal sources have claimed Harry, Meghan and their children are expected to meet with the King during their visit.
