Newcastle Knights player Asu Kepaoa has been hit with a six-match suspension after using a homophobic slur towards an opponent in a NSW Cup game.
Kepaoa was sent off during Friday night’s NSW Cup clash against St George Illawarra after he allegedly called a Dragons rival a slur.

Yet to play in first grade this season, Kepaoa will now be banned for six matches after fronting the NSWRL judiciary on Wednesday night.
The club confirmed that the forward plead guilty to the contrary conduct charge.
“The Newcastle Knights are an inclusive club and pride ourselves on being a welcoming place for all players, staff and supporters,” the statement said.
“Language that causes harm to individuals or communities has no place in our club, in the NRL, or in our community.”
Appearing before the judiciary on Wednesday night, Kepaoa issued a personal apology acknowledging the harm caused by his choice of words.
The 26-year-old will now sit on the sidelines for over a month while he receives appropriate training on the use of language and club responsibilities.
Kepaoa played 42 first grade games for the Wests Tigers before joining the Knights this season.
