“Nobody tells this badass bear how much to smoke.” Okay!

Some of the loveliest animated shows and movies of all time gave nature permission to bite back — Princess Mononoke, FernGully: The Last Rainforest, and Pixar’s Hoppers, more recently. For its new adult animated series, Tubi’s execs seemed to ask, “Why not add a show about bears doing crimes to that noble tradition?” In Breaking Bear, a family of furry forest dwellers use everything in their power — including high explosives and drug money — to fight the frackers, mobsters, and a monstrous wolf pack threatening to destroy their home.

The new red band trailer Tubi shared with us shows how messy that can get. Breaking Bear, which premieres July 24, promises gunplay, gnashing teeth, exposed viscera, and crystal meth. It stars Brendan Fraser, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Josh Gad, Annie Murphy, and Elizabeth Hurley (this show is a Bedazzled reunion!), who plays the alpha of the antagonistic wolf pack. The show’s creator and showrunner is Julien Nitzberg (Mike Judge Presents: Tales From the Tour Bus), and one of its producers is Tom DeLonge, of Blink-182. Tubi’s chief content officer Adam Lewinson compared it to “classic mob sagas” like Scarface and Goodfellas: “It’s bold, it’s chaotic, and we’re here for every outrageous second.”
