An Australian woman has revealed she is leaving her home country for good in a scathing critique of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s government.
Bec Onley, who regularly shares social media videos about money and trading, declared “Australia is the most broken country in the world right now” thanks to Labor’s recent tax changes and the impact on working people.
“Australia claims to care, but yet they are asking us to bend over left and right at every single opportunity. We all apparently have to just sit and take it,” she said in a furious TikTok video.
“I’m done. I have my plan to leave the country to get the hell out of here.
“This is your wake-up call. The last thing you want is to be stuck here struggling.
“Inflation is going to be ridiculously high because we just increased the tax burden on your mechanic, your hairdresser, your cafe owner. So what do they do? They increase their prices.”
In her caption, Onley pre-empted any backlash from those arguing Australia is “better off than other countries right now”.
“The key difference? Australia screams from the rooftops how much they care about their citizens, how lucky we are, how much they look after us,” she wrote.
“These other countries don’t. This isn’t how you look after people you’re supposed to love.
“There’s nothing lucky about Australians not getting a fair go. And we’re definitely not being looked after when housing is pushing families to the brink financially and emotionally.
“This is a broken country.”
In the comments, the Aussie revealed “Thailand is top of the list” of countries she would move to when she abandons Australia.
Onley’s verdict on life Down Under sparked a mixed response from other social media users.
While many agreed that the cost of living is becoming more difficult, they argued it still remains one of the best places to live.
“Everyone I know in London right now is dreaming to move there (to Australia),” one person said.
“I would move from the US to Australia if I could. Everyone should pay their fair taxes. This is the same problem here. I wish we had universal healthcare,” added another.
A third person said they “admire” Australia and believe it is “an incredibly well-run society”, and urged the woman to “respect what you have”.
Meanwhile, a fourth declared: “No matter where you are, life feels hard when you’re never satisfied with what you already have.”
