The Golden State Warriors are reportedly exploring a bold pursuit of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, while the Dallas Mavericks have been linked to a surprise move for Kawhi Leonard as both franchises search for another championship run.

LEBRON AND CURRY, TEAMMATES?
The Golden State Warriors are once again at the centre of bold off-season speculation, with reports suggesting the franchise is exploring an ambitious plan to reshape its championship window through a major shake-up involving some of the biggest names in the NBA.
According Yahoo NBA writer Kevin O’Connor, Golden State is weighing up a potential move for Anthony Davis while also positioning itself to pursue LeBron James in free agency, a scenario that would see several established stars potentially align in a final push for another title alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
Under the reported framework, any deal for Davis would require significant outgoing salary, with Jimmy Butler emerging as a key potential piece alongside draft capital. Butler, who is recovering from a torn ACL and sits on an expiring contract, was only recently added to the roster but already finds himself central to early trade discussion.

If Davis were secured, attention would then shift to LeBron James, with the Warriors believed to view him as a possible free agency target. The pitch would be built around familiarity and legacy: a reunion with Davis, a pairing with Curry, and the chance to chase another championship under Steve Kerr.
There is growing uncertainty around LeBron’s future in Los Angeles, with rival teams expected to monitor his situation closely if he becomes available through free agency or sign-and-trade discussions. While nothing has been confirmed, interest from multiple franchises has already been reported across the league.
On paper, the Warriors’ appeal is obvious. LeBron, Curry, Davis and Kerr all shared success during the 2024 Olympic campaign, where their chemistry on the international stage offered a glimpse of how such a partnership might function at NBA level.

Washington is widely expected to retain Davis after signalling its intent to compete, while also preparing for potential extension talks in the near future. Golden State’s own situation is equally complex. Butler’s arrival was intended to reinforce the championship push around Curry, but his injury recovery and contract status have already made him a focal point in hypothetical trade scenarios. Butler himself has acknowledged the uncertainty, making clear he understands the nature of the league while remaining committed for now.
“If I get traded, I get traded. Their job is to win,” Butler said per ESPN’s Anthony Slater.
“Can I help them do that? Yes. If they feel like somebody else can help them do that on a quicker timetable, then they’ve got to do that. But as of right now, I’m here.”
That tension highlights the reality facing Golden State: a shrinking title window built around Curry, and a front office increasingly willing to explore aggressive, even unconventional pathways to extend it.

MAVERICKS CHASING KAWHI LEONARD
The Dallas Mavericks have emerged as a surprise contender in the growing speculation surrounding Kawhi Leonard’s future, with reports linking the franchise to a potential reunion between the two-time NBA champion and team president Masai Ujiri.
According to reports from The Athletic, Dallas has explored the possibility of acquiring Leonard from the Los Angeles Clippers, with discussions reportedly involving a package centred around P.J. Washington, Klay Thompson and future draft assets.
While league insiders have since tempered expectations, suggesting the Mavericks are not currently viewed as a likely landing spot, the reported interest offers a fascinating glimpse into Dallas’ thinking as it enters a new era built around Cooper Flagg.
The connection between Ujiri and Leonard is impossible to ignore.
During his time as president of the Toronto Raptors, Ujiri orchestrated one of the boldest trades in NBA history, acquiring Leonard from the San Antonio Spurs in 2018 despite uncertainty surrounding the superstar’s long-term future.

The gamble paid off immediately.
Leonard delivered one of the greatest postseason runs in modern NBA history, averaging more than 30 points per game throughout the playoffs and leading Toronto to its first championship. Although he departed for the Clippers after just one season, his impact on the franchise remains legendary.
Now, with Ujiri overseeing basketball operations in Dallas, speculation has naturally resurfaced about whether the pair could reunite.

A healthy Leonard would join reigning Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg and All-Star guard Kyrie Irving, creating a formidable trio capable of immediately pushing the Mavericks back into playoff contention. Few players in the league can match Leonard’s combination of scoring, defence and postseason experience when available.
However, any move for the 35-year-old would represent a significant shift from the message Ujiri delivered upon arriving in Dallas.
Since taking charge, the veteran executive has repeatedly emphasised the importance of building for the future around Flagg, describing the teenage phenom as a generational talent who should shape every major decision the franchise makes moving forward.
Trading valuable assets for an ageing superstar with a lengthy injury history would appear to run counter to that philosophy, raising questions about how aggressive the Mavericks are willing to be in accelerating their timeline.

Reports have also linked the Toronto Raptors to a potential reunion with their former Finals MVP, while other teams continue to monitor developments surrounding the Clippers star. There is also the question of Leonard’s own preferences, with reports indicating there are only a select number of destinations he would consider for a long-term future should he be traded.
Perhaps the biggest obstacle, however, remains the Clippers themselves.
Despite the growing speculation, Los Angeles is reportedly determined to keep Leonard and continue building around him. There is also believed to be mutual interest between the player and organisation in maintaining that partnership, making any deal difficult to execute unless circumstances change dramatically.
The complex scenario involving the Clippers, Leonard and the company Aspiration remains ongoing as well.
For now, the rumours remain just that.
But with Ujiri now calling the shots in Dallas and Leonard’s name once again appearing in trade conversations, the possibility of one of the NBA’s most successful player-executive partnerships being reunited is enough to ensure the story won’t disappear anytime soon.
