However, according to The Stein Line, Dallas is not currently considered a realistic landing spot for the two-time NBA Finals MVP.
“The Athletic reported Sunday that they have also expressed trade interest in Leonard, but sources with knowledge of the talks told The Stein Line that — despite the undeniable mutual respect that endures between Ujiri and Leonard — Dallas is not currently regarded as a plausible trade destination in this case and has not yet been presented to Leonard as such,” The Stein Line reports.
Dallas focused on building around Cooper Flagg
A potential move for Leonard does not appear to align with the Mavericks’ long-term vision.
While Mavericks president Masai Ujiri shares a strong relationship with Leonard after acquiring him in Toronto in 2018, he has made it clear that the franchise’s decisions will be centered on building around reigning Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg.
“A determined play from the Mavericks for Leonard, for all the natural nostalgia it would generate given how Ujiri acquired him the first time, would also clash heavily with the vision Ujiri shared on May 20 after the ouster of Jason Kidd. He said that every decision going forward, in a nod to Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg, would be ‘future-based.'”
“We have a 19-year-old generational player on our roster,” Ujiri said. “We have to think that way. We are not going to make decisions based on winning today. I don’t think that would make sense for the organization.”
Leonard continues to be linked with the Raptors
The Stein Line also reports that dialogue between the Raptors and Clippers remains active, with Toronto’s potential offer beginning to take shape.
The Raptors’ expected trade package would reportedly include Brandon Ingram, RJ Barrett, Gradey Dick and draft capital.
Although the Clippers have not been actively shopping Leonard, they are reportedly intrigued by Toronto’s proposal, particularly because it includes All-Star forward Brandon Ingram.
Leonard is entering the final guaranteed season of his contract with the Clippers and is set to earn $50.3 million during the 2026-27 campaign. He will become eligible to sign a contract extension on July 6.
With his long-term future in Los Angeles still uncertain, rival teams are expected to continue monitoring Leonard’s situation closely, even as the Clippers remain among the Western Conference contenders.
