World number one Scottie Scheffler, a two-time Masters champion who won this year’s British Open and PGA Championship, US Open winner J.J. Spaun and two-time major winner Xander Schauffele had already clinched berths based on accumulated qualifying points.
US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley will announce his six captain’s picks to complete the squad on August 27, with a major question being whether or not he will pick himself to play against Europe at Bethpage Black next month.
“I’ve been saying all year, you can’t expect to be on the team unless you’re in the top six,” said Bradley.
“My goal is to go out there, whether I was Ryder Cup captain or not this week, and play well and play well next week at the Tour Championship as well.
“There’s definitely a lot more on my plate here these next couple of weeks. The Ryder Cup has always been so far away, and now it’s right there. Things are definitely amping up. I still have a lot to prove just as well as everyone around me on the list.”
Should Bradley pick himself, he could be the first team captain to also play since Arnold Palmer in 1963.

Alternatively, he could opt to play for the Americans and let one of his vice-captains take over more of those responsibilities.
Along with himself, Justin Thomas (No.7), Collin Morikawa (No.8), Ben Griffin (No.9), Maverick McNealy (No.11) and Andrew Novak (No.12) are some of leading names Bradley could consider for the captain’s picks.
Of course, it was just two years ago that Bradley (ranked 11th in the standings) was overlooked in favour of Thomas in a move that sparked debate over the US ‘boys club’.
Bradley was then picked as America’s next captain last year in a surprise twist and now with Thomas at 7th, he will have no choice but to pick the man at the centre of the previous selection controversy.
As for those locked into qualification, Scheffler, who won his fifth title of the year Sunday at the BMW, is 2-2-3 in Ryder Cup matches.
Spaun and Henley will be making their Ryder Cup debuts.
Schauffele, last year’s British Open and PGA Championship winner, is 4-4-0 in two prior Ryder Cups while English was 1-2-0 on the triumphant US team in 2021 at Whistling Straits.
DeChambeau, a two-time US Open champion, won this year’s LIV Golf Korea title and has a 2-3-1 Ryder Cup record.
