National speculation has largely assumed Anthony Davis won’t begin the season in Washington.
The Wizards don’t necessarily see it that way.
It’s almost as if Washington’s feelings don’t matter when it comes to the discussion over where the 10-time All-Star plays next season.
We all grasp that Davis, entering his 15th NBA season, isn’t a logical focal point for a team learning how to win. That’s why the Wizards’ February trade with the Mavericks for the 2020 NBA Champion stunned the league.
Fake trades sending Davis elsewhere began immediately. This week’s buzz has Davis and free agent LeBron James, his teammate with the Lakers, reuniting with the Warriors.
The thing is, Washington didn’t acquire Davis to flip him immediately.
One important distinction before we go any further: Keeping Davis does not mean there’s an extension looming.
