SUPERCARS has slightly shortened the pair of weekend feature races for the upcoming NTI Townsville 500.
Further Supplementary Regulations for the July 10-12 event published today have revealed a reduction in the Saturday and Sunday race distances from 70 laps to 68.
Supercars has confirmed to V8 Sleuth that change has been made with fuel burn in mind, in an effort to avoid drivers needing to conserve rather than go all-out.
The Sunday races at Taupō and Symmons Plains this year were likewise adjusted; the former reduced by one lap and the latter increased by six laps (but with a third compulsory pitstop added).
Fuel consumption rates have increased this season in line with the category’s move to a 100 percent renewable blend.
Fuel consumption parity has also been a talking point, prompting Supercars to introduce monitoring protocols ahead of the recent Darwin Triple Crown.
A 26-car main game field will compete in Townsville, bolstered by wildcards for Reuben Goodall (Tickford Racing) and Aaron Seton (Matt Stone Racing).
