Biberovic, 25, has become one of the notable European names tied to the NBA market after developing into a regular rotation piece for Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce.
His contract, however, could be one of the main factors in any move to Dallas, as Stein reported that the deal includes a $2 million buyout.
Under NBA rules, the Mavericks can contribute up to $900,000 toward that amount, meaning the remaining part would have to be covered by the player through the structure of a potential contract.
Biberovic has two more years left on his Fenerbahce deal.
How Biberovic landed with the Mavericks
Biberovic’s NBA rights are coming to Dallas as part of the Mavericks’ trade with the Memphis Grizzlies for Santi Aldama.
In the deal, Dallas acquired Aldama and Biberovic’s draft rights, while Memphis received A.J. Johnson, a protected 2030 first-round pick via Golden State, and two future second-round picks.
Memphis originally selected Biberovic with the No. 56 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, but the player remained in Europe instead of immediately joining the Grizzlies.
Now, with the Mavs taking over his draft rights, Dallas appears interested in exploring whether the timing is right for him to come stateside.
Biberovic’s rise with Fenerbahce
Biberovic has spent his entire EuroLeague career with Fenerbahce, where he has gradually grown from a long-term prospect into a star-caliber perimeter player.
During the 2025-26 EuroLeague season, Biberovic averaged 11.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 41 games, starting 36 of them. He shot 52.4% on two-pointers, 41.9% from the three-point range, and 95.2% from the free-throw line.
This past season, Biberovic became the Turkish Cup Final MVP and helped lead Fenerbahce to the fourth Turkish League championship during his tenure there.
In 2025, Biberovic went on to win the Triple Crown, including the most prestigious EuroLeague title.
