59. That’s how many riders came into the Tour de France without contracts for next season.
Over the last few days, we’ve spoken to agents, team bosses, and several sources to narrow that list as much as possible. This feature identifies all riders, team by team, who publicly haven’t been confirmed under 2027 contracts, provides concrete updates on as many as possible, and lists those still on the market.

As we’re going team-by-team, our first stop is Visma-Lease a Bike, since UAE Team Emirates-XRG have only brought riders to the Tour de France under next-season contracts.
It’s almost a match with Jonan Vingegaard’s team, with the only slight exception being Edoardo Affini. While the Italian is listed as out of contract next year, as we previously wrote in the early spring, he’s already agreed terms on a new deal with the Dutch team. It’s just a case of waiting on the official press release from Visma. It’s possible that such news might drop during the Tour rest days. However, teams can hold off on news such for a number of reasons – one of them simply being a desire to wait until later in the year when a batch of contract extensions can be made public. There are instances of some riders signing contract extensions in 2025 for 2027 and beyond, who still haven’t been announced by their teams.
Over at Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, Nico Denz and Jai Hindley are technically out of contract too. As we reported ahead of the Tour de France, the Australian is set to stay on the team following his third-place finish in the Giro d’Italia. With Denz, from what I’ve gathered, no deal has been struck yet. By all accounts, the team are happy with him; he wouldn’t be at the Tour nor have done the Giro d’Italia if that wasn’t the case, but Ralph Denk wasn’t giving anything away when we caught up with him ahead of stage 2. Talks remain ongoing.
At Lidl-Trek, the only Tour starter without a deal that has been made public is Quinn Simmons, but as we’ve said several times, he’s already extended; it’s just a matter of the team announcing the deal.
