Fermin Aldeguer has quickly established himself as one of MotoGP’s rising stars in 2025. His performances at Gresini have got Ducati excited about his future prospects.

Luigi Dall’Igna told Aldeguer not to worry about his results in his rookie season, seeing 2025 as a learning year for the Spaniard. But he has certainly exceeded expectations.

Riding the GP24, the 20-year-old has taken advantage of his machinery to grab four podiums in 2025, including Sprints. Last time out at the Austrian Grand Prix saw Aldeguer grab his best result in MotoGP to date.

Qualifying in P6, the Gresini rider showed incredible pace in the closing stages of the race to catch Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi. Running a second quicker than the pair at one point, he overtook the Aprilia rider, but could not get close enough to Marquez as he finished as the runner-up.

Marquez put Aldeguer in a ‘very difficult’ situation during the race as he burnt a hole in his boot while chasing the Ducati rider. It highlights the incredible talent the Spaniard has as he hopes to move up Ducati’s ranks.

Aldeguer has a works contract with Gresini, which could see him get factory machinery as early as 2026. Targeting a move to the factory team, Aldeguer previously said that he would love to partner with Marquez, but he now seems to have changed his tone.

Speaking with AS after the Austrian GP, Aldeguer was quizzed on his situation with the Borgo Panigale outfit. Asked if he would like to be teammates with Marquez, he laughed as he replied: “Oh no! He’ll retire sooner! (Laughter) Or so I hope.”

The Gresini rider added that ‘it must be hell’ being next to Marquez, after seeing how much Francesco Bagnaia is struggling at Ducati this season: “It would be very nice and very cool, but I also think it must be hell sharing a box with him, especially in red, but I’d be even more worried if necessary.

“I think Pecco has problems beyond Marc. What? I don’t know. There’s something else. Obviously, Marc doesn’t help at all, but it’s not from Ducati or the team. I mean, his. He needs to change his job or think more about it. And besides, this year is going by very quickly.”

The Spaniard is being backed to reach the top of MotoGP, and he will be looking to go even better in 2026. Valentino Rossi does not want Aldeguer at VR46 next year as he looks set to stay at Gresini.

Ducati are pampering and protecting Aldeguer as they view him as the face of their MotoGP project in the future. It explains why he has a factory contract with the Borgo Panigale outfit.

Dorna would back Ducati giving Aldeguer a factory bike in 2026, but the team are yet to decide on their roster. Teammate Alex Marquez seems like the ideal candidate to land the bike, considering he has outperformed Bagnaia and challenged his brother at the front.

But Aldeguer’s contract could deny Marquez stepping onto the factory bike. The rookie is already proving his worth on the GP24, and he could be an exciting talent on equal machinery as Marc Marquez.
