The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Former Afghanistan fast bowler Shapoor
Zadran has died in India after battling an illness, according to Afghan cricket
sources. He had been receiving medical treatment at a hospital in India for
some time.
No details have yet been released regarding when his body
will be returned to Afghanistan.
Zadran was one of Afghanistan’s pioneering fast bowlers and
played a key role in the national team’s rise on the international stage. He
represented Afghanistan in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), Twenty20
Internationals (T20Is) and other international competitions, earning
recognition for his pace, aggressive bowling and match-winning performances.
Throughout his international career, Zadran helped
Afghanistan qualify for and compete in several major global tournaments,
including the ICC Cricket World Cup and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He was
widely regarded as one of the players who helped establish Afghanistan as a
competitive force in international cricket.
News of his death has prompted an outpouring of tributes
from the Afghan cricket community, former teammates and fans, who remembered
him for his contributions to the sport and his role in the development of
Afghanistan’s national team.
