Following recent reports that Kuminga’s camp is not fully convinced by the Lakers’ contract offer, the team’s desired deal has finally been revealed.
Per Broderick Turner of The Los Angeles Times, the Lakers are looking to sign Kuminga to a potential two-year deal worth $20 million.
“Jonathan Kuminga is a player the Lakers are after, according to people with knowledge of the situation who said L.A. is looking at a two-year, $20-million deal for Kuminga, the sort of athletic wing player the Lakers need to start at small forward,” Turner wrote.
Lakers still in push for Jonathan Kuminga
Jonathan Kuminga became an unrestricted free agent in this year’s offseason after the Atlanta Hawks decided to decline his 2026-27 team option worth $24.3 million.
He spent the first half of the previous 2025-26 season with the Golden State Warriors and was subsequently dealt to the Atlanta Hawks following a contentious trade deadline exit.
Kuminga averaged 12.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists with 46.3% shooting from the field and 33.3% from the three-point range throughout 36 total games.
A highly dynamic and athletic forward who has shown capabilities of playing all-around basketball, Kuminga is truly an intriguing piece to add out of the Lakers’ desire for a wing help around Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
Yet right now, both sides appear distant from reaching an agreement on signing a potential deal.
