Keith Urban reportedly planned his own celebration for Sunday Rose’s 18th birthday because it is “still too raw” to join ex-wife Nicole Kidman and the rest of the family.
According to an insider, the Aussie country star, 58, will have a quiet lunch with Sunday and her younger sister Faith Margaret, 15, as she celebrates her first birthday since her parents’ high-profile split.
It is understood that Kidman, 59, will not attend the lunch, but has organised a separate dinner and big party to celebrate her daughter reaching adulthood.
“It’s still a little too raw for Nicole and Keith to be sitting at the same dinner table, but he is invited to Sunday’s party,” the insider told New Idea.
“Rather than make things uncomfortable, he’s going to have lunch with her and Faith before he heads to the Lakefront Music Festival [this weekend].”
While the former couple will be marking Sunday’s special day separately, the insider said they are making an effort to be a “united co-parenting force”.
On Wednesday, the Big Little Lies actress dedicated an Instagram post to her eldest daughter, featuring two photographs of the up-and-coming model when she was a toddler.
“Happy 18th my angel, you couldn’t be more loved @sundayrose,” she wrote.
The Blue Ain’t Your Colour singer also sent a sweet message to Sunday, sharing a photograph of her modelling for Dior at Paris Fashion Week.
“Happy Birthday Munchkin. Love you. Dad xxxx,” Keith wrote.
Keith has not been seen in public with his daughters for a year, and insiders previously claimed that the girls “blame their father” for the breakdown of their parents’ marriage.
Earlier this year, Sunday appeared to publicly snub Urban when she briefly unfollowed him on Instagram and failed to mention him in interviews.
“Sunday knew exactly what she was doing,” a source told journalist Rob Shuter. “It was a pointed move, and Keith got the message loud and clear.”
Sunday has also been a vocal supporter of her mother, declaring to Elle in March that the Oscar winner is her “biggest inspiration” and a “key part of everything I do”.
Since Keith and Nicole finalised their divorce in January after 19 years of marriage, Sunday and Faith have continued to live with their mum, while Keith sees them every other weekend.
After an acrimonious few months, last week it was reported that the Aussie A-listers secretly met up in Paris in an attempt to “lay down the hatchet” and repair their relationship for the sake of their daughters.
Keith also publicly wished his ex-wife a happy birthday on social media, while Nicole repaid the favour by paying tribute to him on Father’s Day in the US.
