Former Trump supporter Marjorie Taylor Greene has weighed in on the latest US strikes on Iran in a facetious post on X.
The former congresswoman from Georgia, who stepped down in January, said the US was back to bombing Iran because Tehran “bombed a vessel for crossing the Strait of Hormuz that they don’t control yet apparently control.”
Ms Greene has been a vocal critic of the war with Iran, and recently of President Trump. Her comments show a futher fracturing of Trump’s base, who largely remain opposed to the war.
Mr Trump said during his 2024 campaign for office that if he became president for a second time, he would avoid getting the US entangled in conflicts abroad and end “forever wars”
A US federal immigration agent has shot and killed a man during an attempted vehicle stop in Texas, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said.
In a statement on X, DHS said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Mexican national Lorenzo Salgado in Houston on Tuesday morning, but the man “attempted to evade arrest”.
In the Middle East, the US military has launched new strikes on Iran after three ships were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz.
“U.S. Central Command forces have begun launching a series of powerful strikes against Iran to impose heavy costs for targeting and attacking commercial shipping crewed by innocent civilians in an international waterway,” US Central Command wrote on X.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has arrived for the crucial summit of the NATO defence alliance in Turkey.
And he doesn’t seem happy.
In a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, after the Qatar donated Air Force One landed in Ankara, he lambasted many NATO allies saying he was “very disappointed” in them.
