Jarome Luai is never far from the headlines and this week he was part of some big ones, with reports emerging that the high-profile Tigers half had been granted permission to leave the club early.
Luai had already signed for the PNG Chiefs from 2028, but the Tigers have apparently said he’s welcome to go elsewhere in 2027 if he can find someone keen to sign him for just one season.
Between his reaction to the Lachlan Galvin saga last year and up-and-down form since he arrived for the 2025 season, fair to say it’s been a slightly awkward marriage between Luai and the Tigers.
They started well this season, but have since faded and won just two games since round eight, looking set to miss the finals yet again as they sit in 12th.
“I don’t think achieved what they wanted to achieve with him here,” Luke Lewis says on ABC Sport.
