Collingwood coach Craig McRae says the technology used for the AFL’s video review replays is not up to standard.
McRae made his feelings clear after Magpie Patrick Lipinski had a goal denied in the final quarter in the Magpies’ stirring four-point win over North Melbourne on Friday night.
“Oh, look, I have a strong opinion. I don’t often share it, but the technology is not up to scratch, and I know that because I’ve seen the technology out there that’s way better than what we’re using, and the AFL have seen it, too,” McRae said.
“The decision itself is what it is, but the technology doesn’t show the full picture. It misses a frame. Now it probably looked like it was touched … we’ve got technology that’s there to be used.
“Not sure why the AFL are resisting using it. I’m not privy to any conversation other than though, I’ve seen the footage, the footage is out there that we could be using.“
McRae said a “private company” offered the state-of-the-art technology.
“I’ve seen it myself. I’ve seen the frame-by-frame capability of this technology. That’s only one version. I’m sure there’s more,” he said.
The Magpies were a beneficiary of the video replay in the third term when Harry Perryman was deemed to have touched the ball before the goal-line, denying a Harry Sheezel major.
