Félix Auger-Aliassime has penned an emotional tribute to Frederic Fontang after the tennis star parted ways with his long-time coach after 10 years. The World No.4 made the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in an epic five-setter.
The 25-year-old Canadian is playing some of the best tennis of his career, and his No.3 seeding at Wimbledon was his highest to date. But Auger-Aliassime dropped a bombshell on Friday night during the men’s semis when he announced his split with Fontang.
Felix Auger-Aliassime made the announcement after his loss to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon.
“After nearly ten years of working together, it has recently been decided that Wimbledon would be my last tournament with Frédéric by my side as my coach,” he wrote on social media. “Today, I want to express my deepest respect, gratitude, and admiration for his dedication and the passion he brought every single day to helping me achieve my goals.
“Since I was 16 years old, he has guided my development and helped me experience incredible moments through this sport. He has also been by my side during the toughest moments of my career. In those difficult times, I always found in him the calm, composure, and wisdom I needed to overcome those challenges.
“Looking back today, I can say that beyond being an outstanding coach, he has been a true mentor throughout my journey into adulthood. Fred, thank you for leading by example throughout all these years together. I wouldn’t be the player I am today without you. I wish you nothing but the very best in your future endeavours.”

Tennis world pays tribute after sad announcement
Auger-Aliassime has won nine ATP singles titles with Fontang by his side, and has made the quarters at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon. His best grand slam result is reaching the semi-finals at the US Open in 2021 and 2025.
Tennis fans joined Auger-Aliassime in paying tribute to Fontang. One person wrote: “Success in sports is never built alone, and it takes real humility to publicly honour the people who helped shape the journey.”
Another commented: “Congrats both! Amazing partnership.” While a third added: “Thank you Frederic for all you have done in the career and most importantly in the life of Felix.”
