Meryl Streep and Martin Short have made a rare public appearance, stepping out to watch the play 1536 in London’s West End.
The couple are known to be notoriously private; however, they have appeared in images backstage at the show, shared by actress Tanya Reynolds.

Reynolds took to Instagram to document the visit from the A-list couple, sharing several images of the cast alongside Streep and Short.
“The Queen and King came to see us last night. The Queen got on her knees and bowed to us and we’ve lost our minds,” Reynolds captioned the post.
The second image proved Reynold’s claim correct, as Streep could be seen on one knee in front of the cast of the play.
Streep and Short have known each other for quite some time, but they didn’t spark romance rumours until Streep joined the cast of Short’s hit TV series, Only Murders in the Building, for season three.
Fans quickly noticed their easy on-screen chemistry and began to question whether it had translated off-screen, with Streep separated from her husband Don Gummer and Short widowed.
Season three of the show finished airing in 2023, and rumours began to pick up.
During an appearance on the Club Random with Bill Maher podcast in January 2024, Short denied any romantic allegations, saying that the pair were “just very close friends”.
However, Short’s denial did little to squash the rumours as the pair continued to be sat next to each other at awards shows, often looking cozy and spotted giggling together.

In August 2024, the duo stepped out at the season three premiere of Only Murder in the Building, walking the red carpet hand-in-hand.
Multiple unnamed sources allegedly close to the couple have since spoken to US media outlets, confirming the pair’s relationship.
“They just work so well together. It’s like each one of them is exactly what the other person needs at this stage in life. It all feels incredibly effortless between them,” one source told Page Six.
“Everybody should be so lucky to find somebody who fits into their life the way they do each other’s.
“They make each other laugh, they support each other and there’s just a calmness to their relationship. It never feels forced.”
