The razzle dazzle Cowboys have handed Kieran Foran his first loss at 4 Pines Park and have jumped Manly into the top eight thanks to a dramatic comeback that denied the hosts their 1000th win in first grade.

Manly looked home when Jason Saab scored his second to put them up by eight with 15 minutes to go, but two late tries and a golden point field goal to Scott Drinkwater saw North Queensland steal a 19-18 win against all odds.

Braidon Burns’ second try of the contest halved the gap before a Drinkwater grubber was pounced on by Jaxon Purdue who passed to Reuben Cotter to score with three minutes left.

Jake Clifford had the chance to put his side in front but shanked the relatively simple conversion attempt from the left of the posts, with the halfback then missing a two-point field goal attempt from near halfway.

It took them less than two minutes to complete the miraculous comeback with Drinkwater slotting a field goal from 32-metres out to stun the 4 Pines Park faithful.

The win moves them ahead of Manly into eighth spot ahead of a crucial Queensland showdown against the Dolphins.

A STAR IS BURNS

It’s a good thing that Drinkwater brought his kicking boots because Clifford and Manly’s Jamal Fogarty had shockers off the tee with a combined six misses from their eight attempts.

Drinkwater has always been the guy to step up in the clutch moments, and he was at it again with two try assists as their all-star backline continued its hot form.

Tom Chester scored a slashing solo try to open the scoring before Braidon Burns continues his terrific season with a second-half double.

And things get better with chief playmaker Tom Dearden expected to return next week from a lengthy injury lay-off to provide the polish they need.

DOUBLE TROUBLE

It’s a good thing the Cowboys didn’t lose a thriller after they were denied a first-half try due to a double movement that didn’t look too bad at full speed.

Reed Mahoney had sliced through and was brilliantly brought down by Tom Trbojevic, with momentum appearing to take him over the line.

But the bunker noticed him extending his arm which didn’t look great in slow motion and resulted in a penalty against the attacking team.

TROUBLE IN PARADISE

Kieran Foran was furious with his side after last week’s loss to Parramatta, and he now faces the toughest test of his short coaching career after they dropped their first game at home under his watch.

Tom Trbojevic had his best game since returning from a hamstring injury and Haumole Olakau’atu was as powerful as ever just days after he was left unused on the bench for the Origin decider.

But they will rue a missed opportunity in the first half when young half Joey Walsh dropped a ball before he kicked through for Haumole to score.

Things don’t get much better for Manly with Ben Trbojevic (head knock) forced off early, while Corey Waddell injured his right ankle before half-time.
