Britney Spears has been spotted standing through the sunroof of a vehicle as it made its way through traffic in Los Angeles, just months after her DUI arrest.
New photos show the Oops! … I Did It Again singer standing tall above traffic while riding in a black Mercedes SUV on the 101 Freeway near Studio City on Friday.
And Spears has addressed the surprise public sighting, sharing a photo of the incident on her Instagram account and writing: “What people see is two seconds of insanity of me arching me to the lords !!!!! yet the days and hours of my reality !!!!!! Nothing is what it seems. Psss I think I need to come out of the roof quite a bit more.”
The Grammy winner had been travelling from her home in nearby Thousand Oaks.
Spears threw her head back passionately and stretched her arms across the roof of the vehicle as the traffic continued, with the vehicles moving around 70km/h at the time.
Per photos of the singer, she wore a mini sundress and whipped her hair around during the midday traffic spectacle.
Eyewitnesses told the Daily Mail on Friday that the Toxic singer, 44, was standing through the sunroof for approximately two minutes before the Mercedes exited the freeway.
Spears was spotted chatting and laughing with the male driver — who wore a white cowboy hat — after they pulled the vehicle into a gas station, where she was photographed browsing the convenience store.
“Britney just went through the sunroof for a quick moment,” a source told the Daily Mail. “She wanted to see what the traffic was about up ahead because the cars came to a stop.”
They added that the pop superstar “wanted to see how long they would be delayed” in traffic.
“She used to do this all the time as a kid growing up in the South. She loves having the warm wind blow through her hair in the summer, it’s fun,” they explained to the outlet.
“She is having a fun summer and is happy, she is in a good place. If it’s illegal to put your head through a sunroof, she doesn’t know it! She didn’t mean to do anything bad.”
The shocking stunt comes several months after Spears was arrested for driving under the influence in Ventura County, California.
In footage from the March 4 incident, Spears failed a sobriety test before being cuffed and placed into the back of a police vehicle.
Following the incident, an insider told Page Six that the Crossroads actress was “doing really well” after less than a month in rehab.
“She’s healthy and happy and feeling very positive and excited to start afresh. Rehab was a great opportunity for her to ground herself,” the source said at the time.
Another insider shared that she would be “continuing counselling remotely.”
The singer ultimately pleaded guilty to a lesser “wet reckless” charge in May and avoided jail time.
