Israel and incoming freshman Maya Zilbershlag had a productive run to the championship game in FIBA U20 EuroBasket, but came up shy of winning the title on Sunday.
France outlasted Israel 79-66, using an 18-0 run to open the game and building a 23-point lead. Israel was making its first appearance in the event’s championship game.
Zilbershlag capped a solid tournament with 12 points, six rebounds and two assists in nearly 33 minutes. It was Zilbershlag’s sixth straight game scoring in double figures.
Zilbershlag’s numbers during the seven-game tournament:
13.7 points, including 28 against Hungary
6.6 rebounds
41 of her 46 rebounds came on the defensive end.
37.6% overall shooting
38.1% shooting from 3-point range
Zilbershlag is scheduled to arrive in West Lafayette in August after competing for Israel in FIBA U18 EuroBasket in Romania, which starts at the end of the month.

Why Mitch Daniels should stay beyond “the shortest time possible” as Purdue’s president to help athletics shift to next phase
Over the weekend, Katie Gearlds received a commitment from Jada Bobozo, a 5-foot-10 guard from France.
The 20-year-old Bobozo has been playing in the French professional league for Villeneuve D’Ascq ESB Lille Metropole. In last year’s EuroCup, Bobozo scored six points in three games.
She’s expected to be the eighth international player to join the program since the end of last season.
Slovenia’s Zoja Stirn committed in May, but Purdue has yet to announce her signing, leaving her status up in the air. The addition of Bobozo would give the Boilermakers 15 players, the maximum allowed, if Stirn is cleared.
