Prince William is reportedly “furious” after King Charles hosted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at Highgrove House last week.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, reunited with the King and Queen Camilla at the monarch’s private home in Gloucestershire on Friday, in their first meeting together in four years.
Meghan and the children have not travelled to the UK since 2022, and relations between the Sussexes and the Royal Family have since deteriorated following the bombshell claims made in their Netflix series, TV interviews, and Harry’s memoir, Spare.
While the reunion between Charles and the Sussexes has raised hopes among some fans for a reconciliation, a royal commentator has claimed William has no intention of building bridges with his estranged younger brother.
“The Sussexes have won. Meghan Markle back on royal property,” TalkTV presenter Mark Dolan told Sky News Australia’s Paul Murray on Sunday.
“It’s my understanding that William is furious about this. Why? Because it’s a reward for the treachery, disloyalty and the cruelty of Harry and Meghan.
“Charles wants to see his grandchildren, I understand that, but I think that Harry and Meghan had no right to be on a royal property. They got their way as usual.”
Murray highlighted that there have been other opportunities for Harry to take his children to see his father, including when King Charles and Queen Camilla completed their four-day state visit to the United States in April.
“Wasn’t [Charles] in America recently?” the Paul Murray Live host said.
“[Harry] should have said, ‘Look, let’s hang out. I’ll meet you in this DC hotel, I’ll meet you in this place on the other side,’ but no. Royal property, all the rest of it.”
While the Sussexes were at Highgrove House, Prince William was less than two hours away attending a charity polo match in Windsor.
The warring brothers steered clear of each other throughout Harry’s five-day trip to the UK, despite the Duke of Sussex spending time in London, Birmingham and Princess Diana’s family estate in Northamptonshire.
The purpose of Harry’s visit was to promote the Invictus Games 2027, which will be held in Birmingham next July.
However, the trip was overshadowed by drama from the start, including Meghan pulling out of public engagements at the last minute due to security concerns.
There was also confusion about where Prince Harry would be staying just hours before he touched down in London.
He initially declined an offer to stay at Buckingham Palace, but then changed his mind and announced he would be staying at the royal residence for one night,
Just minutes after Harry’s spokesperson shared the news, Buckingham Palace issued a counter-statement that the offer had been withdrawn because the deadline to accept had expired.
Then, on Tuesday, headlines were dominated by the news Harry, Sir Elton John and other high-profile figures had lost their court case against Daily Mail publishers, Associated Newspapers Limited.
According to a former royal butler, the chaotic visit would likely have given Prince William an “I told you so” moment.
“William would have seen this coming, making this incredibly embarrassing for his father, who has yet again tried to offer Harry an olive branch,” Grant Harrold said, as reported by the Daily Express.
“Harry has repeatedly slapped the King in the face, which is a great shame…
“It is all a real mess and has really exposed their private relationship. It is all very embarrassing, especially for the Royal Family.”
