Team Tips: Need to replace a giant Jeremy Cameron-sized hole for the next four to six weeks after the star forward’s brutal ACL joint injury suffered against the Giants. Chris Scott revealed on AFL 360 that Cameron was set for surgery on Tuesday and said the club had decided against getting getting an operation on the star forward’s troublesome arm. Meanwhile Tanner Bruhn (neck) and Jack Henry (throat) have been cleared of serious injury after a brutal night in Western Sydney, but will both be monitored throughout the week, and Mark O’Connor (tight quad) was a late out for Mitch Knevitt. Scott also confirmed on Tuesday that Gryan Miers (three goals from 24 touches, 10 tackles) will be recalled after a standout VFL performance as he gets managed back from a partially torn ACL injury. Possible debutant Jay Polkinghorne is likely at the front of the queue to replace Cameron after a five-goal showing in the VFL — including 20 majors from six games at the lower level. There was pre-season buzz around Polkinghorne after an eye-catching three-goal showing against Hawthorn in practice match, so Cameron’s absence could finally open the door for the 20-year old, take with Pick 44 in the 2024 draft, to get a call up. Cats ruck trio Sam De Koning, Shannon Neale and Mark Blicavs got smashed by Kieren Briggs in the loss to GWS after Mitch Edwards got dropped, so they could be tempted to recall the 21-year old or tweak their mix otherwise. Veteran utility Joel Hamling looks an almost certain casualty from the loss, after going without a disposal from 62 per cent time on ground. Caiden Cleary had just the five possessions playing half a match, while Angus Sheldrick (45 per cent) and Tom Hanily (61) also spent more minutes on the bench. Should Logan McDonald overcome his quad concern, he could be the straight swap for Hamling. In the VFL’s draw with Williamstown, omitted half-back Riley Bice saw the Sherrin 31 times with a whopping 13 intercepts, while Braeden Campbell successfully returned from a long stint on the sidelines with 22 disposals and two goals. First-year player Jevan Phillipou had another strong game to push his case for a senior debut, though you suspect the Swans will keep holding him back until he’s absolutely ready.

Team Tips: Adelaide couldn’t have been much more dominant 79-point thrashing of Gold Coast last Saturday night, but it could come at a slight cost after veteran Rory Laird exited the game just before half time with a left ankle injury. After being sighted in a moonboot, it will be at least a fortnight on the sidelines with a low grade syndesmosis injury. It opens the door straight back up for mid-season draftee Hugo Hall-Kahan, who was managed over the weekend after a stellar start to his AFL career. If the Crows did want to opt for a more defensive-minded option to lock down on Sydney’s Tom Papley, Hugh Bond has been in strong SANFL form and would match up well. There were very few passengers in the monster win at senior level, but with ruck Lachie McAndrew on managed minutes with just 55% game time, he should be well-placed to go one-out against Brodie Grundy — which could see Toby Murray out of the side in his role as second ruck. In the reserves’ three-point loss to Glenelg, recruit Callum Ah Chee successfully returned from his most recent hamstring strain and could come straight back in; though a second game in the SANFL wouldn’t be totally out of the question. But the Dockers will clearly be as cautious as possible with Young after repeated setbacks to one of their most important players. Bailey Laurie was also on the quieter side for a second week straight on the same number of minutes, and may be a consideration for more time in the reserves. Harrison Petty was the side’s second late out on Sunday with a hamstring niggle, with veteran Jake Melksham making the most of his unexpected opportunity to kick 2.2 from 13 disposals — not to mention his two goal assists too. The 34-year-old deserves to retain his place in the starting 23, and if looked upon favourably, it could see a re-jigged forward line. Maybe some positive news. We thought he might have been done for the year… so maybe a bit more short-term.” McRae said there would be a watch on, Jeremy Howe, who came off late against the Kangaroos with a hip issue, at training on Tuesday but they were “optimistic” the veteran defender would get up to face Carlton.
