Absolutely, Hunter Ronald, multiculturalism is far more than food and soccer (Letters, July 6). A robust immigration policy should screen and exclude applicants with ties to terrorist organisations or oppressive regimes. But you suggest that people with “bigotries, hatred and intolerance” should also be excluded. I’m not sure that all Australian-born citizens would pass that test. Hate is a universal human problem, not an immigrant problem. And as per the Sermon on the Mount, you need more than the law to deal with it.
