THE previous time Cam Waters was granted a chassis change in early 2024, an immediate upturn in form followed.
But the Tickford Racing star says his latest move into a new machine is not behind his sudden re-emergence as an out-and-out frontrunner.
After experiencing a nearly 50-race drought without a pole or win, Waters has now recorded three poles and two wins across the past two race weekends.
“I wouldn’t say it’s got anything to do with the chassis because we rolled that out at Tassie and we still sucked,” he said in typically matter-of-fact fashion.
“Really, after Tassie we kind of just put our heads together again and worked out where we’ve kind of been and changed our set-up philosophy again.
“We’ve tried bloody everything this year and feel like we’ve made a bit of progress obviously in Darwin and this weekend.
“I don’t want to get too ahead of myself, just want to take it race by race, and get to the next round and make sure we’re fast there. It’s just all about being consistent at the moment really and learning your package.”
Teammate Thomas Randle also enjoyed arguably the best round of his season in Townsville, allowing him to slash his deficit to the finals cut line from 230 points to 156.
