SUPERCARS fans are seeing a different Jack Le Brocq this year as the veteran strives to carry Matt Stone Racing into the finals series.

“Qualifying has usually been a strong point for me and racing has probably been the part that has lacked, but we’ve sort of swapped that this year,” Le Brocq told V8 Sleuth.

“It’s good that we’ve picked up the racing side because that’s what scores the points, but we definitely need to find some form in quali.”

‘JLB’ simply hasn’t felt comfortable in extracting one-lap pace from the Sherrin Rentals Camaro, but that has been offset by a deliberately tougher edge to his approach to wheel-to-wheel combat.

“I suppose the racing style has changed over the last couple of years, which has been great,” explained the 34-year-old.

“It’s great for the sport and everyone is having a crack and I think we’re getting some good entertainment out there and for the fans back at home, so I just had to lift to that level.

“That’s something that I came into this year wanting to achieve and I feel like I’m getting my head around it and having a bit more of a dip.”

Having outscored James Golding 292-185 across the past two rounds, Le Brocq has jumped the Blanchard Racing Team recruit for 10th in the championship – to the tune of 11 points.

With ninth-ranked Chaz Mostert 105 points ahead of Le Brocq and 12th-ranked Jayden Ojeda 126 points behind Golding, the last playoffs berth is shaping up to be a potential showdown between Cars #4 and #7.

“That’s what we’re sort of starting to realise,” said Le Brocq, albeit noting there’s plenty that can play out yet.

“Jimmy is back in 11th now so he is probably the one car we need to try to keep in front of over the next four rounds,” he added.

“To be honest, anything can happen. We have just got to keep going out there and putting it in the 10.

“You could have a really good next three rounds and then Bathurst have something shocking happen, you end up 20th and get no points and you’re out.

“I think it’s just being consistent over the next four rounds.”

MSR had two cars in the mix for finals last year, before a Bathurst 1000 engine failure cruelled Nick Percat, and a Lap 160 Kai Allen pass denied Cameron Hill.

Perth, Ipswich, The Bend and Bathurst are the last four ‘regular season’ rounds this year before finals kicks off on the Gold Coast.
