Jakarta, IO – Indonesia won one gold and one silver medal at the 2026 Asian Boxing U-19 & U-23 Championships. These results signal a positive revival for Indonesian boxing in international multi-event events.

Anggi Intania Chalik won the gold medal after a dominant performance in the U-19 Women’s Light Flyweight (45–48 kg) final, defeating India’s Gunjan. Dira Artika won the silver medal in the U-19 Women’s Featherweight (54–57 kg) event after being defeated by another Indian representative, Prachi, in the match held at the GBK Senayan Basketball Hall.

This success is a significant achievement for PP PERBATI (the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association or the Indonesian Boxing Executive Board) and provides valuable capital as they look ahead to the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, the 2027 SEA Games, and their long-term goal of qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia), Raja Sapta Oktohari, commended the successful organization of the championship and the achievements of the Indonesian boxers, which he considered to be the beginning of a renaissance in national boxing.

“I commend the Chairman of PP PERBATI for successfully earning the trust of the International Boxing Federation to host the event. The organization was extraordinary and resulted in a proud achievement. Congratulations also to Anggi. This is the seed for future achievements,” said Okto, who witnessed Anggi’s gold medal victory in the ring.

According to Okto, this result is important momentum as Indonesia faces several major international sporting events in the coming years.

“We will face the Asian Games, the Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games, and the 2027 SEA Games. All require achievements, and we hope that boxing will once again become a sport that brings pride to Indonesia. In the past, we struggled to achieve success, but now Indonesian boxing is slowly starting to recover,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Indonesian Boxing Association (PERBATI), Ray Zulham, emphasized that the results of this championship demonstrate that a foundation for development is beginning to be established, although the process of athlete regeneration is still ongoing.

“Our preparations for the U-19 and U-23 teams are not yet ideal because this management is still new. Our focus has been on first-tier athletes for the SEA Games, Asian Games, and Olympics. However, this result serves as both an evaluation and motivation to strengthen development for this age group,” Ray stated.

Meanwhile, Anggi acknowledged that her success in winning the gold medal was the result of hard work during training and the support of her coaches. The young Indonesian boxer also emphasized that this gold medal is not the ultimate goal.

“I really took my training seriously. All the coaches know how hard I worked to achieve these results. But ultimately, I leave it all to God. I hope to follow in the footsteps of my seniors and one day compete in the Olympics,” Anggi concluded.

With a successful event and achievements in the ring, the 2026 Asian Boxing U-19 & U-23 Championships will be a crucial momentum for the rise of Indonesian boxing. The next step is to ensure these results translate into successes at the SEA Games, the Asian Games, and ultimately, the return of the Indonesian national team to the Olympic stage. (rp)
