According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, both Thompson and the Warriors would be open to reuniting, particularly if Golden State wins the race to sign LeBron James.
“He’s had interest in playing with LeBron in the past,” Fischer said on his podcast. “I do think that there would be excitement from both sides, of Golden State and Klay, to really go out on a high note.”
LeBron could influence Klay Thompson reunion
Thompson spent his first 13 NBA seasons with Golden State and became one of the central figures of the franchise’s championship era alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
The veteran guard won four NBA titles and earned five All-Star selections during his tenure with the Warriors. Golden State selected him with the No. 11 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.
Fischer indicated that Thompson’s previous interest in teaming up with James could add momentum to reunion discussions should the four-time MVP choose Golden State in free agency.
However, no formal negotiation between Thompson and the Warriors has been reported.

Dallas decision remains key
Thompson remains under contract with the Dallas Mavericks after signing a three-year, $50 million deal in 2024. He is scheduled to earn approximately $17.46 million in the final season of that agreement.
Dallas would therefore need to trade, waive, or reach a buyout agreement with Thompson before he could freely choose another team.
The 36-year-old averaged 11.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists during the 2025-26 season.
Heat interest depends on potential buyout
The Miami Heat have also been connected with Thompson, but Fischer reported that their interest is conditional.
“The Heat are eyeing Klay Thompson, but I have been told that this scenario would only be in the event that Dallas came to a buyout agreement for Klay Thompson,” Fischer said.
That means Miami is not currently expected to pursue a trade for Thompson.
