The Brisbane Broncos have kept their slim finals hopes alive, ending an eight-match losing streak to defeat the Panthers 14-12.
Brisbane fullback Reece Walsh slotted a conversion from the sideline with 10 minutes remaining to give the Broncos the lead.
It is Brisbane’s first win since April. and keeps them still in the fight for finals footy.

In a season of many lows, tonight was a high for the reigning premiers.
The Brisbane Broncos marched down to Western Sydney Stadium and stunned the ladder-leading Penrith Panthers.

That was a gutsy effort tonight. They are the benchmark of the competition. We knew we had to come here and give a great performance.
To hold this Penrith team to two tries, it speaks volumes of the effort.
The belief and fight and hunger in the team was certainly there tonight.

The Broncos have been given a slice of luck.
The Panthers grubber a kick; it is then picked up by a Panther and thrown infield, collected by Brisbane’s Josiah Karapani, who is tackled into touch.
Referee Todd Smith called a knock-on against the Panthers, believing the grubber kick was dropped before the ball hit the foot.
The grubber kick was done correctly, so Penrith should be getting the ball.
But before Karapani went into touch, ref Todd Smith blew the play dead.
Because the Bronco never went into touch, it is a play the ball for the Broncos.

A grubber kick from Ezra Mam, on the last play. comes off Liam Martin and back into Mam’s arms.
Mam is then tackled for a changeover.

Brisbane were unable to catch a bomb, giving the Panthers a full set at the Brisbane goal-line.
Just like the first Panthers try, a shift to the right led to Nathan Cleary passing to Dylan Edwards.
Edwards then threw a lovely cutout pass to To’o, who touched down in the corner.
