Gold Coast youngster Alex Davies will be available to face Port Adelaide after having his one-match suspension for rough conduct downgraded to a fine at the AFL tribunal.
Challenging his one-match suspension for a fourth quarter incident involving GWS’ Ryan Angwin, the Suns argued that while Davies wasn’t contesting the ball at the time of the bump, he took action to try to minimise the impact of the bump by dropping his knees.
The incident occurred in the fourth quarter of Gold Coast’s loss to GWS on the weekend, with the AFL arguing his action was consistent with that of a bump.
The tribunal found that the impact should be graded as low given he leans away from the impact and lowers his body position to reduce its force.
Angwin suffered no injury, with Davies’ actions viewed as key in reducing the potential for injury.
His selection will be important for Gold Coast.
The Suns have two Round 24 games as a result of its their rescheduled Opening Round game and need to win one to qualify for their first ever finals series.
While they will go into both as favourites, the Suns will be desperate to get the job done on Friday night, which will give them a chance of sneaking into the top four.
