The President of Mexico and WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán Inaugurate Unprecedented Project That Will Help 100,000 Children Across Mexico. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaimán were part of a historic session of the traditional “People’s Morning Conference” from Mexico´s Government Palace this Monday, announcing the creation of “Boxing for Peace,” a program that integrates with the “Youth Building the Future” initiative. This endeavor will help 100,000 young people aged 6 to 29 with boxing classes across the country.
February 16th.- At Martes de Café, the program “Boxing for Peace” was officially introduced — a national strategy that links the sport of boxing with social prevention initiatives and community cohesion.
During the presentation, it was explained that approximately 5,000 professional male and female boxers will receive monthly financial support equivalent to the minimum wage, along with access to medical insurance, to serve as instructors. They will teach at least one hour of free classes per day to participants between the ages of 6 and 29, with the goal of reaching 100,000 beneficiaries.
February 20th.- WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman hosted a summit of some of the sport’s most powerful promoters in Las Vegas, to see how more of them can work together for the benefit of the sport.
Among those present were Salvatore Cherchi, Pepe Gomez, Luis de Cubas, Sampson Lewkowicz, Eric Gomez, Alberto Leon.

WBC’s weekly press conference, Martes de Café, was held at the “Víctor Manuel Mendoza” cinema located in Magdalena Contreras Borough.
The conference was attended by the borough mayor, Lic. Fernando Mercado; the Ambassador of Jordan to Mexico, His Excellency Adli Qasen Muhammad Alkhaledi; the WBC interim lightweight champion, Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz; WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman; among others.

March 4th.- In an afternoon filled with laughter, mariachi, and Latino pride, iconic comedian Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias was honored with the 2,838th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The event, which celebrated the artist’s decades-long career of uniting cultures through humor, featured a special presence from the world of sports. The World Boxing Council, an organization that has always walked hand-in-hand with the most influential figures in popular culture, was present at this significant ceremony. José Antonio Arreola Sulaimán, representing the organization and its president Mauricio Sulaimán, recognized Iglesias’ achievements and greatness by presenting him with a replica of the emblematic Green and Gold Belt.
Boxing and baseball celebrated each other this Tuesday with the participation of Mauricio Sulaimán, President of the World Boxing Council, throwing the ceremonial first pitch during the exhibition game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Mexican National Team. The encounter was also highlighted by great moments prior to the pitch, such as Sulaimán’s speech to “El Tri” in the locker room before the game, which Mexico ultimately won 6-3.

March 12th.- The Mike Tyson Invitational took over the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas
The Sahara Las Vegas hosted the Mike Tyson Invitational amateur tournament, where a select group of elite amateur boxers gathered to showcase their skills in the ring. Living legend Mike Tyson headlined this major event with the goal of promoting American boxing talent
March 17th.- WBC PUTS THE spotlight ON inclusion and social reintegration
Te WBC, led by President Mauricio Sulaimán, held a new edition of its traditional “Martes de Café”, focusing on initiatives that promote inclusion, diversity, and the social impact of boxing. During the session, the WBC highlighted the progress of the WBC Cares program in support of people with Down syndrome, in commemoration of World Down Syndrome Day on March 21. As part of this initiative, boxers with this condition were recognized with medals, highlighting their discipline and commitment to the sport.
March 22nd.- Mexico vs. USA – Amateur Boxing, Two Nations, One Dream
The Mexico vs. USA amateur boxing event in Douglas, Arizona, was a resounding success, bringing together athletes, fans, and communities from both sides of the border in an extraordinary display of sportsmanship and unity. This event was made possible thanks to the leadership and support of Mayor José Grijalva and the City of Douglas team, as well as the backing of U.S. Senator Rubén Gallego, whose dedication to youth, sports, and binational collaboration continues to generate a significant impact. March 24th.- Great ‘Martes de Café’ conference held in Puebla, Mexico
In a morning filled with energy and social commitment, the World Boxing Council’s iconic “Martes de Café” —held this time in Puebla, Mexico— featured the presence of Josejas, the ambassador who has revolutionized the connection between sport and the spirit. Before the specialized press and the boxing family, Josejas reaffirmed his mission: to use boxing not only as a combat sport but as a vehicle for healing and empowerment for new generations.

April 8th.- WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán traveled to Japan to attend the highly anticipated eliminator bout between local standout Tenshin Nasukawa and Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada. The Jab gym, located in the Coyoacán district of Mexico City, opened its doors to host another edition of the World Boxing Council’s (WBC) traditional Martes de Café. Guatemalan boxing is experiencing a golden era, and its premier current exponent has been recognized with his nation’s highest honor. May 7th.- Guatemala Celebrates Its Champions: Lester Martínez and Joshua Antón Receive the Order of the Sovereign National Congress

Both athletes were distinguished with the Order of the Sovereign National Congress, the highest honor granted by the Legislative branch, following a year of unprecedented success that has elevated the Guatemalan flag to the elite ranks of the World Boxing Council.
In an atmosphere of unity and passion for the sport, the President of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mauricio Sulaimán, led an emotional gathering with the Spanish boxing community this past Sunday, May 10, at the Hotel Alimara in Barcelona. In a meeting imbued and enthused with symbolism and strategic vision, the President of the World Boxing Council Mauricio Sulaimán, led the “Champions Legacy Dialogue” at the iconic Nelson Mandela Foundation Centre of Memory in Johannesburg, South Africa. The gathering brought together the high command of South African boxing—including promoters, administrators, coaches, and legendary former champions—in a combined and united effort to strengthen the sport’s structures and amplify its social impact across the continent.
Mauricio dedicated a space to honor the trajectory of the warriors who placed South Africa at the world’s summit. May 22nd.- Oleksandr Usyk surprises Mauricio Sulaimán with special gift ahead of fight in Egypt
During a visit to New York, Mauricio Sulaimán experienced an unusual moment. The President of the World Boxing Council suffered an accident when his cellphone fell through an elevator shaft at the New York Athletic Club, plunging 14 floors and being completely destroyed. Mauricio shared the story on his social media accounts. Mauricio Sulaimán will be present at the historic fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Rico Verhoeven, which will take place at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, where the WBC Heavyweight World Championship will be on the line. During the presentation of the special “King of the Nile” belt, which will be awarded to the winner of the bout, Oleksandr Usyk surprised Mauricio with an emotional gesture. Remembering the incident that occurred in New York, the Ukrainian champion gifted him a customized cellphone featuring World Boxing Council designs.

This recognition, approved at the state level, is strictly granted to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their community within the past five years. June 4th.- Seattle Seahawks Welcome WBC Light Heavyweight Champion David Benavidez in Unique Championship Crossover
Football and boxing came together as the Seattle Seahawks opened their doors to the WBC and undefeated, three-division world champion David Benavidez, who visited the team’s training facility on behalf of the WBC. Joining the delegation was Bonnie Jill, creator of “ WBC Spotlight” was also present. Benavidez presented the Seahawks with a custom-made WBC championship belt featuring imagery celebrating the team’s iconic Super Bowl LX victory.
June 6th.- The WBC Joins the Celebration of the 250th Anniversary of U.S. Independence at the American Society of Mexico Gala

WBC Silver super welterweight champion Ermal Hadribeaj was officially presented with his belt in an emotional event that brought together his team Ahmet Oener & Donato De Martiis. Visibly moved, Hadribeaj reflected on the long, exciting and arduous journey that led him to this achievement. With this victory Ermal became the mandatory contender of the division.
June 14th.- Great Induction Weekend at the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota
The memorable four-day weekend of the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in Canastota, New York, culminated on Sunday afternoon with the celebration of its 37th annual induction ceremony, which took place in the prestigious Showroom at the Turning Stone Resort Casino. The Class of 2026, composed of 12 new members, immortalized boxers Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin, Nigel Benn, Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver, Naoko Fujioka, Jackie Nava, and Jimmy Clabby (posthumous). Additionally, trainers and cutmen Russ Anber and Jimmy Glenn (posthumous) entered the Hall, along with physician Dr. Edwin “Flip” Homansky, referee Frank Cappuccino (posthumous), journalist River Iole, and television broadcaster Alex Wallau (posthumous).
