Washington Wizards star Anthony Davis was asked by young reporter Chase Coburn whether James could join him in Washington next season.
Davis revealed that the two former Los Angeles Lakers teammates have already discussed the possibility of playing together again.
“Maybe. We had some conversations,” Davis said.
Davis and LeBron discuss potential reunion
James and Davis spent several seasons together with the Lakers and formed one of the league’s most successful partnerships during that stretch.
The duo led Los Angeles to the 2020 NBA championship, with James earning Finals MVP honors after the Lakers defeated the Miami Heat in six games.
Their partnership eventually ended when Davis left Los Angeles, but the two stars have remained close off the court.
James is expected to announce his free agency decision next week, with several teams reportedly pursuing the four-time NBA champion.
While Washington has not been widely mentioned among the leading candidates, Davis’ comments suggest that a reunion between the two longtime teammates has at least been discussed.
The Golden State Warriors have also been linked as a potential reunion destination for Davis and James.
Golden State has reportedly considered a blockbuster trade for Davis as part of a possible effort to improve its chances of convincing James to join the Warriors.
For now, however, the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, and Warriors have emerged as the leading contenders to sign James.
Meanwhile, Davis is expected to remain with the Wizards.
