Apple TV released a first look at the studio’s three-part docuseries examining the UConn women’s basketball program’s unmatched success over the past four decades.
“The Dynasty: UConn Huskies” will premiere globally Aug. 21, and Apple TV released a 90-second trailer on social media Friday afternoon, highlighting the Huskies legends and behind-the-scenes footage set to feature in the docuseries.
The trailer showed snippets of one-on-one interviews with recent stars Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd, along with Huskies icons Diana Taurasi, Breanna Stewart, Maya Moore and Sue Bird. Clips from locker rooms and practice sessions spanning across coach Geno Auriemma’s 40-year tenure were also included in the preview.
Apple TV’s latest docuseries was announced in early May and will be co-directed by Emmy Award winner Matthew Hamachek and Emmy Award nominee Erica Sashin. The series, which will also include interviews with current UConn stars Sarah Strong, KK Arnold and Jana El Alfy, follows the growth of UConn into the greatest college basketball program of the modern era.
“The Dynasty: UConn Huskies” traces that journey in full — blending never-before-seen archival footage, incisive interviews, and intimate access to players, coaches, alumni, and more — revealing how a program built over decades continues to define the standard today,” reads a May press release from Apple TV.
Under Auriemma, women’s basketball’s all-time leader in wins with 1,288, UConn has won an NCAA-record 12 national championships and made a record 25 Final Four appearances, and captured a combined 63 conference regular-season and tournament titles. The program had one winning season before his arrival in 1985.
Apple TV’s spotlight on the UConn program is the studio’s latest installment in nonfiction sports coverage. Previous docuseries focused on the 2024 World Series between the Yankees and Dodgers, the rise of soccer icon Lionel Messi to greatness and Stephen Curry’s remarkable coming-of-age story.
