“Jack Robinson played dirty. He won and is in the battle, but he played dirty and there is no honor in such a victory.”
Three days ago, surf fans awoke to the news that two of their favourite surfers, in this instance Italo Ferreira and Jackie Robinson, were engaged in the sort of online warfare usually restricted to social media greats Kelly Slater, Gabriel Medina and Joel Tudor.
The briefest of recaps.
Italo Ferreira posted a rant about ethics on his @if15sports account with vision of the 2024 encounter with Jackie on Finals Day.
Fan response was mostly in Italo Ferreira’s favour although a few brave souls risked the ire of the Brazilian’s fanbase by supporting the Australian Jackie Robinson.
Now, Jackie’s wife Julia Muniz, a Brazilian-born entrepreneur and model, has acted as a peacemaker between the pair posting on Italo Ferreira’s account.
Trendy Post. There is a rule BOOK explaining: there was no interference it was the beginning of the battery, without priority – the Italian won priority afterwards. He still pulled Jack down (just watch the video) Both of them are there to destroy…. may the best win and good waves surf show it
Italo Ferreira’s fans were not kind in response.
Jack played dirty. He won and is in the battle, but he played dirty and there is no honor in such a victory. Regardless of that, WSL is a corporation and as such lives its own interests. And it’s not today that we know that having a series of Brazilian world champions is not in the interest of the WSL company.
Biased post, just like judges when they see an American against a Brazilian. You know that these attitudes are recurring, and yet you make this type of comment for being part of your family.
The video itself is not about interference, it’s about the fair game, competition is competition everyone wants to win, more than win in surfing and in honesty, if he had won clean, surfing doing only his thing, he certainly wouldn’t have the “post biased” and much more less of your comment
Although, pointedly, from one self-aware Brazilian fan.
Brazil instead of taking advantage of its peak in surfing and building a strong image, is becoming known, by a country famous for not accepting defeats and becoming victimized in the sport
Has your wife or gal ever come in swinging for you? Many summers ago, I had a girlfriend who started a fight with a couple of studs outside a Surfers nightclub and insisted I finished the job, which I swiftly did by blocking a couple of hooks with my temple and subsequently enjoying the surreal effects of concussion.
You?
