Funeral plans have been made following the death of Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler on July 9, 2026.
The celebration of life service and procession has been planned for August, with fans encouraged to attend to pay their respects.
Bonnie Tyler, whose name at birth was Gaynor Hopkins, was famous for the ’80s hits Total Eclipse of the Heart and Holding out for a Hero.

Tyler’s coffin will be brought to her home in Mumbles, Wales, with people invited to pay their respects by lining the street on Newtown Road at 3:15 pm.
A celebration of life will then be held at St Mary’s Church, Swansea on August 17 at midday. Tyler will then “return to her hometown”, a place called Skewen in Neath Port Talbot for a private family service.
A notice from William Pressdee Funeralcare on behalf of Tyler’s family said that she would be remembered as “a warm, generous artist whose music touched generations and continues to fill dance floors and karaoke booths around the world”.
The notice also requested “family flowers only” at the funeral, but invited other attendees to make a donation in Tyler’s memory to one of two charities at which she was a patron: Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales and Cerebral Palsy Cymru.
Tyler died unexpectedly on July 9, 2026, aged 75. The news of her death crashed her official website with it receiving “too many requests”.
“Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for,” a message on her website and Facebook page told fans.
The news of Tyler’s death came following emergency intestinal surgery in May that had left her in a medically induced coma. She woke from the coma in June, but friends said she remained “seriously ill”.
Her health began to deteriorate in April. Not long after arriving at her second home in Portugal, Tyler began experiencing “intense abdominal pain” and was rushed to hospital with a tear in her bowel, requiring emergency surgery.

While it’s not known exactly what health condition Tyler had been battling, she had reportedly undergone “inconclusive tests in London”, according to The Sun.
Tyler is survived by her husband, Robert Sullivan, 82, a property developer and former Olympic judo competitor, whom she married in 1973.
