The Chicago Cubs made a series of roster moves prior to their Monday game against the Detroit Tigers, including activating Jameson Taillon from the 15-day injured list.
Taillon, who has been out of action since June 8 with a hamstring strain, will make the start for the Cubs Monday against the Tigers at Wrigley Field, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
The Cubs also have added pitcher Aaron Civale to their active roster after acquiring him in a trade from the Athletics over the weekend.
In corresponding roster moves, the Cubs designated reliever Drew Pomeranz for assignment and placed pitcher Phil Maton on the 15-day injured list with tendinitis in his right knee.
Taillon has been out of action since June, and has struggled in 13 starts this season, with a 2-5 record and a 5.19 ERA. He has surrendered 20 home runs in just 67.2 innings, with 59 strikeouts and 23 walks in those outings.
The Cubs acquired Civale from the Athletics, along with cash considerations, as they look to bolster their injury-depleted roster. He has made 16 total appearances so far this season, including 15 starts, posting a 5.42 ERA with 58 strikeouts in 74.2 innings of work.
Pomeranz had a strong 2025 season with the Cubs, his first since the 2021 campaign, but he struggled badly in his second run with the club, surrendering five earned runs in 5.2 innings of work.
Maton has also struggled this season with the Cubs, with a 6.18 ERA in 31 appearances for the North Siders. He has 31 strikeouts and 16 walks in 27.2 innings, with a WHIP of 1.81 on the campaign.
The Cubs are hoping to continue their recent winning ways after taking two-of-three games from the Minnesota Twins over the weekend.
