Glance ahead to Sunday’s blockbuster AFLW clash as the Cats prepare to head to Adelaide to do battle with the Crows
Geelong will be looking to kickstart their 2025 season with a win this weekend, as they head to the City of Churches to take on Adelaide.
It looms as an important clash for the Cats and the Crows, after both teams fell short in their season opening matches last weekend.
Having never beaten Adelaide in their AFLW history, Geelong will be looking to break that trend this weekend and will be hoping to gain some momentum, with a number of tough matches ahead in coming weeks.
Take a look at everything you need to know ahead of the Cats clash with Adelaide, proudly presented by Villawood Properties.
KEY DETAILS
2025 AFLW Season – Round 2
Adelaide Crows v Geelong Cats
Thomas Farms Oval, Adelaide
Sunday August 24th, 3.05pm (AEST)
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Geelong: Aishling Moloney
The Cats created plenty of opportunities in Round 1 through the first three quarters, but were unable to find an effective avenue to goal with their superstar forward, Aishling Moloney held goalless for just the second time in her last nine matches.
The exciting aspect for Geelong is that after being held goalless in Round 3 last year, Moloney bounced back and kicked nine goals in her next three matches with a four goal haul in Round 4 against the Suns.
Expect a strong response from the superstar key forward against the Crows this weekend.
Adelaide: Madison Newman
Despite the Crows loss in Round 1, Madison Newman stood tall and performed strongly, helping to keep her side in the contest for much of the afternoon.
Newman finished with 23 disposals and a goal, generating plenty of run and carry with 534 metres gained.
Collecting an equal game-high five score involvements, Newman has proved dangerous with ball in hand and the Cats will need to find a way to nullify her impact on the weekend.
RECENT HISTORY – Geelong v Adelaide
Geelong are yet to beat Adelaide in the AFLW, looking to snap a five game losing streak against the Crows this weekend.
They have come awfully close in recent matches though, going down by four points in the final round of the 2024 season and by two points in the most recent clash prior to that.
