Real Madrid is finalizing an agreement with Finland national team forward Mikael Jantunen, according to BasketNews sources.

Sources indicate that the 26-year-old, 2.04-meter forward is set to become another addition to Pedro Martinez’s squad.

One of Europe’s most efficient stretch bigs, Jantunen is expected to help replace the floor spacing lost following Trey Lyles’ departure.

He would join Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot and Jaime Pradilla among Real Madrid’s key additions this offseason.

Javier Molero of EuroHoops first reported that Jantunen and Real Madrid were in advanced talks.

Advanced stats love Jantunen

Jantunen is coming off a season with Fenerbahce, where he averaged 5.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 19 minutes per game.

His best offensive performance of the season came against Partizan Belgrade, when he scored 19 points while knocking down 4 of 5 three-point attempts.

He also delivered a key 13-point, 6-rebound performance in Game 2 of Fenerbahce’s playoff series against Zalgiris Kaunas.

Per BasketNews Advanced Stats, Jantunen posted Fenerbahce’s second-best offensive rating differential, with the team’s offense scoring 4.6 more points per 100 possessions when he was on the court.

Proven shooter

Before joining Fenerbahce, Jantunen enjoyed a breakout EuroLeague campaign with Paris Basketball in 2024-25, averaging 7.5 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 63.2% from the 2-point range and 38.8% from beyond the arc.

He also helped Paris capture the 2024 EuroCup title, contributing 7.9 points and 4.0 rebounds per game on 66.1% 2-point and 41.5% 3-point shooting.

Finland’s key piece

Jantunen has also become one of the cornerstones of the Finnish national team.

At EuroBasket 2025, he played a major role in Finland’s run to the semifinals, averaging 12.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while shooting 58.3% from two and 45.0% from three.

Among his standout performances were 19 points in the quarterfinal victory over Georgia, followed by 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists in Finland’s dramatic bronze-medal game against Greece.
