Peter Gutwein will step up as chair of the Australian Multicultural Council. The former Tasmanian premier replaces outgoing interim chair Simon Chan.

Announcing the appointment, Multicultural Affairs Minister Anne Aly said Gutwein would support ongoing work to promote an inclusive Australia in which people of all backgrounds are connected and feel a strong sense of belonging.

“At a time when social cohesion is more important than ever, the council’s work helps ensure that people of all backgrounds feel valued, connected, and able to contribute to Australia’s future,” Aly said.
