TA2 Muscle Car Series organisers are weighing up a possible switch from AASA alignment to Motorsport Australia.
Category manager Matt MacKelden has made no secret of having options on the table with both sanctioning bodies for 2026.
TA2’s position in the landscape has somewhat evolved in the past 12 months, having been acquired by HCC Distribution Pty Ltd which then purchased sister series Trans Am.
TA2 and Trans Am use the same type of cars, but are this year running on different tyres. HCC is a consortium made up of veteran competitors Mark Crutcher, Paul Hadley and Graham Cheney.
Already affiliated with Motorsport Australia, Trans Am is anticipated to further strengthen its position as a Supercars support category in 2026.
So, what about TA2, which currently finds itself on the AASA side of the fence?
“We’ve asked both organisations to come back to us with a schedule and a calendar and costs and all that sort of stuff,” MacKelden told V8 Sleuth.
“It will all be examined and we will make a decision based on what’s right for the category and the customer and what’s going to give us the best outcome.

“There has not been a decision yet.
“The initial discussions have been had. We have put on the table what we believe TA2 requires, which to be frank is not a lot more than we’ve got now.
“We’re not saying we want to be the be-all and end-all. We know our position in the market really is as a feeder category to Trans Am, and then obviously Trans Am into Super2.
“We think we know where Trans Am is going to go… once we have both offers, it will be taken onboard and we’ll make the decision.”
TA2 ran its relatively high-profile two-driver event, the Tag Team Enduro, last weekend at Queensland Raceway where its well-known there was some general competitor dissatisfaction with the way things were handled on the management/officiating side.
Motorsport Australia meanwhile is undergoing a change of leadership following news of CEO Sunil Vohra’s departure.
Two rounds remain in the TA2 season: Mallala Motorsport Park next month and a Winton finale (October 31 to November 2).
