Adelaide fans have been labelled “pathetic” for relentlessly booing Collingwood star Isaac Quaynor at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.
Almost a year on from the homophobic slur Izak Rankine directed at Quaynor, the Magpies star has been hounded by Crows supporters every time he’s touched the ball.

The booing has marred what’s been an enthralling clash between two finals-bound sides – and a game that saw Adelaide spearhead Taylor Walker boot his 700th AFL goal.
“Seriously, if you’re booing Isaac Quaynor for being on the RECEIVING end of a homophobic slur nearly a year ago, you’re a POS [piece of shit] and you’re totally embarrassing your own club. Nice work,” Rohan Connolly, a former long-time footy journalist at The Age, wrote on X.
Bailey Irrgang, a co-host of the podcast AFL Fantasy Fantics, wrote on X: “Pathetic from Crows fans booing Quaynor.”
Newly appointed Tasmania Devils coach Ken Hinkley said on SEN’s AFL Nation: “They’ll have sore voices by the end of the night.”
Fox Footy host Sarah Jones labelled the behaviour “pretty ordinary”, as Brisbane legend and former Carlton coach Michael Voss was left scratching his head.
“Why are you even trying to go down that path?” Voss said.
“I don’t know what you’re trying to achieve. Just move on.”
Rankine’s 2025 season ended in round 23, cut short by a four-game suspension.
Quaynor returned to Adelaide Oval for a qualifying final against the Crows and was met by a barrage of boos on that occasion.
The booing on Thursday night flew in the face of comments made by Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks on match eve.
“Come to the footy to support the footy. We’ll do what we can to entertain and put on a show – that’s what it’s about,” Nicks said on Wednesday.
“We ask our supporters to just enjoy that and get involved with that part of it and then be respectful, like we ask of all our players – be respectful.
“But it is a contest and there’s a lot of emotion that comes with sport. [It’s] just the ability to control that. But we want our supporters to be loud, which they are every week.”
