After Huawei set the trend of wide foldable phones in the market with the new Pura X Max, Samsung followed with its broad creation – Galaxy Z Fold 8 and here is an ultimate showdown between the two folding innovations and their top-notch features.
Pura X Max showed up earlier this year with a dynamic form factor. The device is wider than the first Pura Fold model and brings several WOW points in terms of specifications, internal features, and software capabilities.
On the other hand, Galaxy Z Fold 8 made its way to the launch stage this week, as a new competitor in the market ahead of Apple’s first and wide iPhone Ultra debut.
Since we have two wide folding phones on the shelves – Huawei Pura X Max and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, it’s time to see which of these handsets excels in the top three foldable specifications: Display, Camera System, and Battery!
1. 2Ds – Design and Display
Starting with the look – the Galaxy Z Fold 8 looks more like a hand notebook with a slimmer and lighter body. It weighs 201 grams and is 4.8mm slim. On the other hand, Pura X Max, with an outward folding mechanism, weighs 229 grams and is 5.2mm thick.
The South Korean firm has used a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x screen for its wide folding phone with 3000-nit peak brightness and a 5.5-inch cover screen.
But when it comes to Pura X Max, the fold has a 7.7-inch LTPO OLED panel for the inner side with 3000-nit brightness and a 5.4-inch cover screen with 3500-nit peak brightness. Galaxy Z Fold 8 tops in design but the display crown goes to Pura model.
2. Camera Setup
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide continues to adopt a dual rear camera bump on the back packed in a wide pill-shaped frame. The lenses are a 50MP main shooter and a 50MP ultrawide snapper.
Pura X Max sports a triple XMAGE imaging setup with a 50MP variable aperture main camera, a 50MP periscope telephoto zoom lens, and a 12.5MP ultrawide-angle shooter.
3. Battery Life
Samsung is still struggling with its foldable battery. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a 4800mAh cell pack with 45W wired charging and 20W wireless charging. On the flip side, the Pura X Max uses a 5300mAh cell with 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.
Inputs further reveal that the Pura X Max foldable can charge in half the time used by its newly launched competitor – the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide.

Huawei has also maintained a fantastic pricing strategy with the Pura X Max. Its starting rate is $1625 and stops at $2070, whereas the Galaxy Z Fold 8 begins at $1799, with the highest price reaching $2159. The winner is clearly Huawei in this comparison.
