Marc Marquez has been the rider to beat in the 2025 MotoGP season. With nine wins and 12 Sprint victories, he has been almost unstoppable with Ducati.

The Spaniard secured his sixth consecutive win at the Austrian Grand Prix as he extended his lead over his brother Alex Marquez to 142 points. With nine races to go, Marc Marquez looks almost guaranteed to grab his seventh premier class title.

Marquez will find it hard to understand when he cannot win at Ducati, and he is working hard mentally to prepare for that eventuality. But with his current form, it is hard to see anyone beating him anytime soon.

Crew chief Marco Rigamonti says Marquez is ‘complete’ in 2025, perfectly summing up how his season has gone. The 32-year-old has adapted seamlessly to the GP25 and is producing exceptional performance, with Marquez on course to break numerous MotoGP records.

Casey Stoner is in awe of Marquez and his ability to ride ahead of the traction control system, while other riders rely on it. But even with how impressive the Ducati rider has been in 2025, the Aussie thinks one other rider produced a better race this season.

Marquez had a great battle with Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi at the Austrian GP, who led the opening 19 laps before the Spaniard passed for the lead. However, the championship leader soon had another threat to contend with.

Fermin Aldeguer was flying on the GP24 in the closing stages, going up to one second quicker than Marquez at one point. The Gresini rider produced some incredible overtakes late on the brakes, quickly getting through Bezzecchi and into second.

Aldeguer hounded Marquez for the lead, but the 20-year-old could not get close enough as he settled for runner-up. Marking his best result in MotoGP to date, Stoner feels that the Spaniard had the ‘best race’ of 2025.

He told AS: “I think this was probably the best race of the year for any rider, to come to a track where everyone else was struggling and finish so close to the winner. It was a very impressive race.

“Halfway through the race, when I was chasing Acosta, I told my wife he was going to finish. And then he started setting lap times six or seven-tenths faster than the others, and it was incredible how he was still able to take care of the tires.

“It’s clear the bike’s setup was fantastic; he had more traction than a lot of the guys he’s been riding. It was a very surprising race for him.”

Aldeguer’s performance leaves him eighth in the standings with 121 points. The rookie has been hugely impressive in 2025, and it has got Ducati excited about what is to come.

Luigi Dall’Igna hailed Aldeguer as the ‘future of Ducati’ after the Austrian GP, with the Borgo Panigale outfit having big plans for the Spaniard over the next few years. He is eyeing a factory seat, with the 20-year-old having a works contract.

Ducati are ‘pampering’ Aldeguer as they decide whether to hand him a factory bike for 2026. Dorna would back Ducati giving Aldeguer factory machinery, but Claudio Domenicali is yet to make a decision.

Riding in red is the 20-year-old’s ultimate goal in MotoGP. However, Aldeguer hinted that he would not want to be Marquez’s teammate, stating that it ‘must be hell’ sharing a garage with him.
