Edmonton Oilers forward Zach Hyman has sparked strong reactions after publicly supporting new head coach Mike Babcock. The veteran winger defended Babcock despite the coach’s controversial reputation and past allegations during previous NHL stops.
“I had a very good experience with Mike in Toronto,” Hyman said, per Sportsnet. “I think he’s a phenomenal coach. I think extremely highly of him.”
The Oilers hired Babcock on June 23 after the NHL completed a review into his past conduct. The league found no basis to prevent his return, although the NHLPA previously described his past actions as “very concerning.”
