INTRIGUE is building around the immediate status of a leading Australian motorsport series following a curious case of rebranding.
The platform that’s come to be known as the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series has suddenly been renamed on its website and social media as the ‘AASA Race Series’. The website now has no trace of Hi-Tec Oils logos either.
No explanation has been provided for the mid-season change.
V8 Sleuth has attempted to contact several relevant parties regarding the matter.
Round 4 of the 2026 Super Series is due to take place in roughly a fortnight’s time, August 14-16 at Queensland Raceway, where the Australian Endurance Championship will take centre stage for the Fight In The Night event.
Other categories scheduled to appear include but are not limited to the TA2 Muscle Car Series, Formula Ford, Legend Cars, and Formula RX8.
It’s worth noting that Hi-Tec Oils Motorsport Pty Ltd was announced last October as the new promoter of the Super Series, which is sanctioned by the Australian Auto-Sport Alliance.
The Super Series’ Hi-Tec Oils sponsorship is thought to cover a large percentage of the costs attached to the AVE-produced TV broadcast.
Industry sources have pointed to being in the dark on exactly what the rebranding revelation means, but there’s no question it has got tongues wagging.
All the while, a stoush is playing out in the background around who is the rightful owner of the AASA, following allegations that share transfer documents were signed by Benalla Auto Club vice-president Ross Wood under the false impression that they related to a lease renewal.
Les Smith – who is joined in the consortium claiming to now own AASA by Stephen Whyte, Michael FitzGerald and Peter Washington – subsequently hit back via a statement supplied to media.
