It’s not every day a series gets renewed for a season two when its first season hadn’t even premiered yet. But The Paper is the exception to the rule.

The Peacock series, which is set from the same universe as its American version The Office, was renewed for more episodes back in June 2025 when its debut season was still three months away.

The Paper has since premiered on screens – airing locally here on BINGE – and the workplace comedy has been a hit with viewers when premiered last September.

“We binge-watched this weekend. Overall, we enjoyed it and laughed a lot!” one viewer tweeted on X at the time, as another commented, “Just binged the entire season today and I have to say, I loved it.”

“Die hard US Office fan here, I really enjoyed it, too. Didn’t go into it expecting anything, but I enjoyed the characters and the gags were fun,” another wrote, as one praised, “They couldn’t have chosen anyone better than Domhnall Gleeson to carry this show. Perfect casting.”

Now Peacock have released several first-look photos at the mockumentary’s new season, which is schedules for release on BINGE on September 8.

The returning cast of the comedy series includes Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Tim Key, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Ramona Young and Oscar Nuñez, who played fan-favourite accountant Oscar Martinez in the US version.

Last season, the same fictional documentary crew that filmed Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell in the US version) and his colleagues at the supplies company Dunder Mifflin were looking for their next subjects – and they found them in the office of a newspaper based in Ohio, called the Toledo Truth Teller.

It’s run by new editor-in-chief Ned Samson (Gleeson) who takes over the struggling newspaper while trying to overhaul the editorial team amid staff clashes and corporate overlords as the mockumentary crew film their every move.

The Paper Season 2 picks up after the team sweeps the Ohio Journalism Awards and Ned has found his next major journalistic crusade which in turn jeopardises the paper.

He is also faced with the aftermath of that cliffhanger kiss between him and Mare (Frei) after the awards ceremony. But the awkward pair don’t know where to start when it comes to figuring out their relationship.

Sounds like we’re in store for another chaotic season.

The Paper Season 2 premieres September 8 on BINGE. The Paper Season 1 is now streaming on BINGE.
