TWO-TIME V8 Supercars champion and NASCAR Cup Series race winner Marcos Ambrose will return to the circuit where he began his motorsport career later this year, as patron of the upcoming Baskerville Historics event.
To be held at the historic Baskerville Raceway in Hobart, Tasmania from October 16-18, Baskerville Historics is one of Australia’s continually growing historic motorsport events.
Ambrose, an inductee of both the Tasmanian Sporting Hall of Fame and Tasmanian Motorsport Hall of Fame – among other honours – was announced as the event’s patron at a launch event in Hobart on Thursday night.
Launceston-born Ambrose began his motorsport career at Baskerville in 1995, when he drove his father Ross’ Nissan R32 GT-R in a club level event.
That outing allowed Ambrose to obtain the requisite CAMS licence to compete in the Australian Formula Ford Championship in 1996 and was the only time he raced a car in Tasmania until the V8 Supercars Championship Series returned to Symmons Plains Raceway in 2004.

The highlight of Baskerville Historics will be the return of Heritage Touring Cars to the 2.01-kilometre circuit, with a combined field of more than 30 Group C and Group A touring cars expected to appear.
In a neat connection to the past, Heritage Touring Cars will compete for the Tilford Touring Car Cup – the same title of an exhibition race held at Baskerville for Group C touring cars in 1983.
That event was sponsored by Hobart automotive dealer, Tilford Auto Group – a long-standing supporter of Baskerville Raceway and current sponsor of the Baskerville Historics event.
